On our web site we publish the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) expected Outcomes for ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. Currently IAF does not include ISO 45001 expected or intended outcomes, which are important to understand when creating and auditing occupational health and safety systems.
We have reviewed all related documents (ISO 17021-10, ISO 45001, and IAF-MD-22:2023) to provide our own guidance to the expected outcomes.
The ISO 45001 standard includes it in criteria 0.2 under the Introduction, where it states, “The aim and intended outcomes of the OH&S management system are to prevent work related injury and ill health to workers and to provide safe and healthy workplaces;” ISO 45001 also uses refers to the need to focus on the “intended outcome” 20 times throughout the document.
ISO17021-10, Auditor competency document for third party OH&S includes the same expectation that auditors will focus on expected/intended outcomes in criteria 3.11.
